[1] Casa / Home / La maison

7. Intenta desarrollar un complejo de superioridad. Nunca vienen mal.

flaky

also adj., -i·er, -i·est.
  1. Made of or resembling flakes.
  2. Forming or tending to form flakes or thin, crisp fragments: flaky pastry.
  3. Slang. Somewhat eccentric; odd: "that slightly flakey quality, in joy as well as in grief, that prepares us subtly for the mad scenes to come" (Village Voice).
flakily flak'i·ly adv.
flakiness flak'i·ness n.

(var sp. flakey) Subject to frequent lossage. This use is of course related to the common slang use of the word to describe a person as eccentric, crazy, or just unreliable. A system that is flaky is working, sort of — enough that you are tempted to try to use it — but fails frequently enough that the odds in favor of finishing what you start are low. Commonwealth hackish prefers dodgy or wonky.

Marvin' around

Let's face it: deep down, all of us are Marv -the monster, the lesser one-, in our heads. And, deep down, she's always Goldie, isn't she? Does she really wants us? Or is it just convenient? We don't care, as long as she's here. Not really, not deep down.

Perfect score

That's lucky. My first day and it's precisely her turn. It really feels like destiny didn't want me to miss it.

"That's her", he needlesly points her out as we cross paths with her, announced by her partner-in-crime. Not that I'm jealous, that is not exactly what I would like to be to her, but still. I resent yet admire that spot.

The show starts and I wouldn't be able to take my eyes off her if I could keep up. There's tricks of lights, harnesses flying by, extras deviating your eye from the main attraction. She takes on and takes off, juggles and hovers. You think you see her and then she's gone. A hail of sparks calls for attention and there she is, alongside her inseparable companion. They make you believe as almost they come as a pack. They do most of the time, in my mind.

It's unanimous. Her mark is way higher than the other three's convined. Her name and score get off on the board in a much brighter shade and start blinking.

Could it be my subconscious fears what it has always been obvious to me will become obvious to everyone else? But it is happening in front of my very eyes and I can't believe everybody else now knows of her greatness.

I'm not even worried that I'm up next.

why indeed

This extraordinary and, in the end, rather frighteningly clever novel isn't about cloning, or being a clone, at all. It's about why we don't explode, why we don't just wake up one day and go sobbing and crying down the street, kicking everything to pieces out of the raw, infuriating, completely personal sense of our lives never having been what they could have been.
